Worth the Drive: Ice Wizards Shaved Ice Delivers Flavor from Top to Bottom

At Beyond the Grill, we love hearing from readers about new restaurants, dishes, and hidden gems they discover. But every now and then, we get the opportunity to hit the road and experience something for ourselves. This time, a few great reviews were enough to send us from Mesquite to Carrollton, Texas, in search of something cold, colorful, and a little different: Ice Wizards Shaved Ice.

The adventure started at 2155 Marsh Lane in Carrollton. Pulling into the shopping center, you could easily drive right past the small bright pink stand if you aren't paying attention. Our advice? Look to the left. That's where you'll find Ice Wizards serving up towering cups of shaved ice with an impressive selection of flavors.

There was also a little urgency behind this visit. Ice Wizards operates seasonally, and this location is scheduled to close for the season on October 4. We wanted to make sure we got there in time.

And we're glad we did.

One of the first things that caught our attention was the price. We had seen that the Jumbo was only $5.50, and part of us needed to see if that was actually true.

It was.

But the experience became even better thanks to Jocelyn, who greeted us at the window and was extremely helpful. We initially asked for a combination of mango and cherry, but Jocelyn suggested adding a blue flavor to complete the look and turn the shaved ice into a colorful rainbow.

It was a simple recommendation that turned out to be a very good one.

When that giant cup came through the window, the first impression was definitely visual. Bright layers of red, yellow, green, and blue covered a perfectly rounded mound of shaved ice. It looked almost too good to disturb with a spoon.

Almost.

The first bite immediately explained some of those great reviews.

The flavor was amazing, and after a few spoonfuls, I even shared some with my wife, reluctantly, of course.

What impressed us most wasn't simply the sweetness or the combination of flavors. It was the fact that the flavor lasted from the very top of the cup all the way to the bottom.

Anyone who loves shaved ice knows the disappointment of enjoying those first syrup-filled bites only to eventually reach a section of plain ice. That wasn't the case here. Ice Wizards made sure the flavor was distributed throughout the entire cup, making the last spoonful just as enjoyable as the first.

After making the drive from Mesquite specifically to give Ice Wizards a try, we can confidently say it was worth the trip.

In fact, it may have been one of the best shaved ice experiences we've had.

And with the season coming to an end, there's already another trip being planned—this time with family members coming along.

If you've been looking for a reason to try something new, you may want to make your own trip to Carrollton before Ice Wizards closes for the season.
